My name is Janice and my last name, Engelgau, means angel village in German. I’m an actor who loves exploring the big apple while listening to the amazing Ella Fitzgerald or Nat King Cole. When I'm not performing or auditioning I enjoy helping my Dad with drone parachutes (my survival job) and posting on my vintage inspired fashion blog Thoroughly Modern Princess. ♥
I grew up in the beautiful San Francisco Southern Bay Area. As a kid I watched old movie musicals on TCM with my Mom, listened to my Dad jam out to Jimi Hendrix on the guitar, and played hide and seek in the backyard with the best brother and sister ever. I started dancing when I was 4 years old and instantly fell in love with performing. I performed in my first musical, Honk!, when I was in 5th grade. I continued to perform both in school and outside of school in the Childrens Musical Theatre San Jose and West Valley Light Opera. After graduation from Los Gatos High School I made my way to San Jose State University. In college I trained with Company One, the school's resident musical theatre troupe lead by Janie Scott. In my senior year I got to take part in the workshop and world premiere of The Snow Queen with San Jose Rep. I spent the following summer in NYC performing The Snow Queen at NYMF. I returned to the Bay Area to do several more shows including, Irene (Irene), Ragtime (Evelyn), Dames at Sea (Ruby), and How to Succeed… (Rosemary US/Perf). In March 2017 I was thrilled to finally fulfill my lifelong desire of moving to the big apple! I feel honored and blessed to get the chance to pursue my dreams in this amazing city and call NYC home! |
